Question from our valuable site visitor:

Hello, i am an INDIAN right now staying in USA im intrested to vote my leader through e-voting can u tell me is there any possibility if so can u send me the link. thankQ,

Here is the Answer:

first of all let us thank you for your visit to anigalla.net, and for your effort and interest in contacting us..

Though we know the answer 'there is no e-voting for Indian elections', we took some time to cross check with the election commission officials by talking to them personally and confirming that there is no provision for NRIs to vote from abroad.. we do not want to pass any false or outdated information to our visitors, so we called more than 2 IAS officers from state election commission board and got the right information..

this is the reply that they gave us when we called them this morning..
"You must be present at the polling station personally where your name has been enrolled.. right now, for these 2009 elections, there is no other way.."

some important and useful details for you:

"REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE ACT, 1950" was amended in 2006 and again 2nd amendment was made in 2008, but none of these amendments made it available for NRIs to cast their vote from outside the country.. go through some extract from 1st amendment in 2006

It is noted that the right to vote as demanded by the non-resident Indians is their legitimate right. Conferring such right will enable them to participate in the democratic process of elections in their motherland and will also boost their involvement in the nation building. The Government have considered all aspects of the demand and it has been decided to enable the Indian citizens absenting from their place of ordinary residence in India owing to their employment, education or otherwise outside India to get their names registered in the electoral rolls of the concerned constituency of their place of ordinary residence in India had they been in India so that they would be in a position to cast their votes in elections to the Lok Sabha and to the State Legislatures in case they happen to be in their constituency at the time of polls. They may also be able to contest the elections. Accordingly, it is proposed toamend section 20 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950
