A drug racket involving a Telugu film producer and his friend has been busted by the Cyberabad police. Nearly 20 kilos of Ephedrine stuffed in three bags was recovered from the producer’s vehicle. It is suspected that the drugs could be worth several crores of rupees in the open market.
Madhapur crime police team seized the drugs from an Innova (AP 28CC 4840) belonging to film producer Kamineni Venkateshwara Rao also known as KV Rao, during routine checking on Jubilee Hills Road No 45 near Durgam Cheruvu. Venkateshwara Rao, a resident of Kamalapuri Colony, had produced a film, Dadar Express, and is currently into film distribution business.
Incidentally, the Innova in which the drugs were recovered was used in a recent Telugu movie, Sambho Siva Sambho, sources said. Venkateshwara Rao reportedly hires his vehicles to film units.
Acting on information provided by KV Rao, the police arrested his friend Shyam Raj.
‘‘The duo are acting as conduits in the racket,’’ sources said. Madhapur police inspector B Srinivas Reddy said Venkateshwara Rao had purchased the drug from some persons in Karnataka and is selling to his clients in Mumbai through his agents there.
‘‘Venkateshwara Rao claims that he has brought the drug from Karnataka for the second time,’’ Srinivas Reddy said adding that police would be investigating the others involved in the racket. Venkateshwara Rao also claimed that he was not supplying the drug to any clients in the city, the police said.
The ‘‘official’’ value of the drug is Rs 2,200 per kilo but it is sold at Rs 35,000 per kilo in the open market.
The two accused have been charged under Section 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Sources said though Venkateshwara Rao was taken into custody a couple of days ago, the police withheld the information as they were awaiting the arrival of one of his Mumbai agents.
However, news of the producer’s arrest leaked to a media outlet foiled the police plans to nab the agent and forced them to formally break the news.
--------------

The main culprit Venkateswar Rao produced a movie earlier, "Sarkar", in which Nagababu and Ramya Krishna played key roles. Media has already spoiled the plot of police. Now some TV channels are alleging that Naga Babu and Bellamkonda Suresh have connections with this racket.
