Dinesh! Popping those pills is not always good for health: Dr YSR

“It just happened. I afraid we can’t bear the result.” Managing Director of the world’s largest bus transport system-APSRTC, V. Dinesh Reddy goes sleepless with Deora’s action lately (announcement three days back).

The highest ever hike in fuel prices results in a burden of Rs 305 crore to the RTC in this fiscal and approximately Rs 337 crore loss annually. Within 72hrs Dinesh Reddy came up with the usual and ultimate remedy to this “unwanted” change- increase in bus fares. But Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, to whom the health of his departments and undertakings is prime concern, gently turned down the idea and advised him to focus rather on internal efficiency to face the problem.

With this, Dr.Reddy indirectly reminded Dinesh’s actual strengths and achievements in the past. As the chairman of APSRTC, Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said, Dinesh is a dynamic officer who can face such complexities efficiently.  RTC has reported a profit of Rs 135 crore for 2007-08 financial year against a profit of Rs 40 crore during the previous financial year and Rs 250 crore is the projection for current financial year. Recently, he also enabled online reservations.

Here the credit goes to the doctor. However, Dinesh had big plans for the future of his organisation. After wiping off the accumulated loss of the Corporation, Rs 1398 crore, he thought of going in for public issue.  Now it has become a challenge to his managerial abilities. Generating non-traffic revenue is one of the major options to overcome the burden. Dinesh Reddy is pulling his socks up to kick in Rs 100 crore, in the next two days, through a proposed commercial complex on 9.5 acres at Musheerabad. Kudos to the MD with Lalu’s spirit!
