An Indian, who is no more Indian by heart, talking about India and Indians. This is what i thought today when i read the following letter that came to "Times of India"
Dear Editor:
I'm an Indian living in Australia, and I'm really disturbed about an Aussie media article published in "The age" today. The most embarrassing fact is that the article is written by an Indian. Please have a look
http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/dont-believe-the-media-hype-racism-is-often-a-twoway-street-20090601-bsto.html
What Mr.Arora is saying that, we Indians often get beaten up in India, so what is the big deal in getting beaten up in Australia.
Dear Times of India, pl publish this article in India, stating the details about Mr.Arora. These kind of people are a disgrace to our country and it's quite important for our Media to expose these kind of idiots.
Few things that i disagree with this hypocrite Akash Arora ( the author who wrote the article for 'the age' )
He said: Going through the reports, it amused me to think of how many Indian students are bashed up on Delhi Metro, the Indian capital's new rail network, and how they never make news. In late 2008, after an increase in crime on Delhi Metro, the authorities started a 24-hour customer care and complaints cell. As many as 71 offenders were fined or punished in one month for crimes ranging from sexually harassing women passengers to bashing and mugging lone male passengers at night. None of these attacks made headlines, but an Indian student being assaulted in Melbourne, tagged a racist threat, results in a media feast. My Question: why didn't they bashed an australian student in the train, like you said in delhi an indian, why not an Aussie in Melbourne? Ok, one incident, we can think it may not be the reason, but how come 5 incidents in a row in a month of time?
He Said: I moved to Sydney as an international student in 2003 and found racism lurking more in the immigrants' psyches than on the streets. A fellow Indian student at the University of Technology, Sydney, once told me he preferred to live a 50-minute train trip from the campus in Harris Park than in the student accommodation provided (for the same price) right next to the campus. When I asked why, he promptly replied: "Because Harris Park has Indian neighbourhood, Indian cinemas, Indian restaurants, Indian shops …" Just one question popped to my mind. Why did he move to Sydney if he didn't want the Australian way of life? My Question: Is it wrong if i say, i wanted better education or facilities to study it doesn't mean that i will opt away from my own culture and tastes. World praises Indian culture, what's so wrong if someone wants to live in an Indian locality to ease his painful home sick feelings like staying away from friends and family and mother land? Do you think that everyone in this world is like you or what? or are you trying to tell the Indians in Australia that if they want to stay in austraila, they must eat what australians eat, they must sleep like australians sleep etc., or what?
He Said: And look at the ramifications this can have. It can have an impact not only on Australia's economy, with international education taking a back seat, but can also deprive Indian students of a high level of education in a country that is far more multicultural and tolerant than their own or most parts of the world. My Question: Is it australian economy concerns you more than Indians' lives? who are you? A broker for Australians? :) When compared to India, australia is nothing in multicultural, tolerance etc., etc.,
He Said: Of course, the media circus is not going to change my decision. I have just booked my flight and can't wait to move back to Sydney. For good. And in time for a sensational summer. My Question: Tell the world How much money you took to write this article in Australia's favor? to and fro charges for Sydney and Sensational Summer's expenses? People like you who use flights to move around doesn't know what is happening on the streets and in the trains.. People like you will be thinking that what you are thinking is correct, People like you will be dreaming that what you have seen 5 years ago is still the same.. you will talk like this until you are bashed up one day.
